The recycling bin might seem the right place to put shredded paper.

But Surrey County Council says this isn’t the case.

The authority says the small strips can wrap around recycling machinery causing breakdowns.

Instead, we are being urged to use shredded paper as compost, animal bedding or in packaging for fragile items.
