Sutton Council has taken steps to control the number of family homes being turned into Houses for Multiple Occupants

Councillors have given the go ahead to withdraw existing ‘permitted development’ rights for larger houses to be turned into small HMOs.

Turning houses into HMOs has not required planning permission since being announced in 2015 by the previous government.

The council says HMO developers must play by the same rules as others to meet the diverse needs of Sutton residents.
