Surrey’s firefighters are asking parents to talk to their children about the dangers of playing on frozen ponds.

They say they’ve become aware of youngsters taking to the ice as the winter freeze continues.

But they say ice is unpredictable and can cave in within seconds.

Firefighters advise calling 999 if you see someone in trouble on a frozen lake or pond as attempted rescues can put other lives at risk.
