She grew up in the borough and represents St Helier ward.
Shuile says her election shows how diverse and welcoming Merton is, and that everyone should feel they belong.
During her year as Mayor, she will raise money for Dons Local Action Group and Merton Mencap.
Joan Henry is now serving as Deputy Mayor.
