The victim in the case, in her 20s, had been on a night out on valentine’s Day and met the suspect outside a bar in Clapham High Street at around 4am.
The suspect is described as a man of Middle Eastern or southern European appearance, approximately 5ft11ins, of thin build, with thick eyebrows, a thick beard and black hair. He was wearing a plain white top, jeans and trainers.
The victim and another woman went with the man to a nearby supermarket.
After leaving the supermarket, the victim became separated from the other woman. Between 4am and 6am, the suspect took her into an alley behind the supermarket, where police say he raped her.
The victim was ultimately able to fight the man off, and left the scene.
Detective Constable Kay Paterson, who is leading the investigation, said: “The victim in this case has shown tremendous bravery, coming forward in the wake of an appalling attack. She continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.
“The rape took place in the early hours on Clapham High Street. The suspect and the victim moved between multiple premises – including a pub and supermarket, and we are eager to speak to anyone who has any recollection of seeing them.
“Tackling sexual offending is a top priority for the Met, and we are releasing this e-fit to assist witnesses, or anyone who may recognise the suspect.”
