The waterway was straightened and widened over 100 years ago which conservationists say speeded up the flow of water.
They say that this action also disconnected the river from its flood plain which can cause “sudden and catastrophic” flooding.
The public event to discuss a restoration plan is taking place on Sunday from 10am at OSO Arts Centre in Station Road.
