Victor Hadrys was still at school when war broke out in 1939 but after watching the dogfights in the sky, he was determined to fly Spitfires.
He got his “wings” in South Africa in 1944, flying six different Marks of the Spitfire and flew solo from England to Bangkok.
The Mayor of Richmond and Victor’s son John, who is visiting from Australia, will join him at his care home later for a party.
