More than 5 fire engines were sent out to false alarms every day in Surrey between October 2022 and March last year.

The service has changed the way it responds to automatic fire alarm call-outs.

It now only attends if there’s been a 999 call confirming that there is actually a blaze.

The change covers hotels, boarding schools, care homes and any other residential types of property.
