The number of people arrested by police in connection with this afternoon’s Epsom Derby has risen to 31.

12 people were arrested at the racecourse, including one person who went onto the track and a woman who was pulled back by climbing the fence.

They join 11 people arrested in early-morning raids on houses in Mitcham and Byfleet and eight more detained while travelling in a vehicle in Burgh Heath.

The group Animal Rising says the race represents money being placed above animal welfare.. Police say many of those arrested are suspected of conspiring to cause a nuisance.

The race was won by Auguste Rodin ridden by Bry.an Moore.
