Many of us grew up throwing bread into the water, but people across Richmond are being asked to stop doing this.

The council says people wanting to give a bird a treat should choose natural foods like uncooked oats and bird seed mixes instead.

The authority says the food should also be placed in the water and not on pavements, so it doesn’t attract rodents.

The RSPB says although river birds can digest bread, too much can leave them feeling full without giving them the nutrients they need.
