It’s the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving in Britain from Caribbean countries.

Many of the new arrivals rented lodgings in the deep shelter underneath Clapham South Tube station before settling in Brixton.

Although not all Windrush migrants arrived on the ship itself, it became a symbol of the wider mass-migration movement.

A series of events will be held across Lambeth with community groups being handed up to £35,000 to help mark the event.

They’ll highlight the contribution to British life made by the Windrush Generation and their descendants.

National Windrush Day falls annually on June the 22nd.
