Kingston council says an alleged incident involving the authority’s Conservative Group leader is a matter for the police.

Rowena Bass, who represents Coombe Hill Ward, is alleged to have “assaulted” her election agent after a verbal confrontation.

A Conservative party spokesman has since confirmed she has been suspended from the party pending investigation.

The Met Police has also confirmed it is investigating leading to some residents to call for her to be suspended from the council.

But a Kingston Council spokesperson has told us Ms Bass remains a councillor and will continue to fulfil that role.

The Council cannot provide any further comment in relation to any alleged incident.
