922 residents have signed an online petition to remove the barrier at the south end of King Charles Road, which closes it to through traffic.
A counter-petition demanding it is kept has gained 743 signatures.
Council officers are set to carry out further surveys and put together a report on the scheme for the committee to discuss in February 2024.
