Kingston Council has signed an agreement that will hopefully bring the first Kimchi School outside of Korea to the borough.

The Memorandum of Understanding focuses on promoting understanding of the cultural and culinary heritage of Korea.

It is hoped the Kimchi School will open in September next year.

It will offer residents of Kingston the chance to learn about kimchi, an iconic Korean dish and the UNESCO-recognised kimjang culture.

New Malden is home to one of Europe’s largest Korean communities.

Kingston has also become the first place in Europe to mark November the 22nd as Kimchi Day.
