The borough has been named one of the 12 best places in the UK and the best place in London for people to live after they stop working.
Consumer group, Which? asked more than 1,000 of its members what main factors determined where they would like to retire to.
Access to healthcare was the most important one, followed by green spaces, closeness to leisure activities and low crime levels.
Which? then applied these findings to authorities across nine regions of England, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
They then identified from data which authorities scored highest in these categories, with Merton falling within the top 12.
