Homebuyers could save more than £170,000 by choosing Chessington or Hook over Surbiton or Tolworth, according to new research.

Lloyds found the average home in KT9 costs £453,441, compared with £625,840 in nearby KT6.

That’s a saving of £172,399, around 28%, simply by buying in the next postcode.

The bank says looking just beyond the most sought-after areas could make home ownership more affordable.
