Green councillors are calling for new allotment sites after Reigate & Banstead Borough Council revealed there are 943 households on the waiting list.

That’s almost as many as the borough’s 1,210 plots – with average waits of more than six years.

The borough has 24 allotment sites, with waiting lists ranging from 24 applicants at Woodmansterne to 165 at Batts Hill.

In the past three years, 437 plots have become available and 111 are currently vacant but unallocated.
