Firefighters tackled two grass fires in Mitcham last week, as London Fire Brigade warns the public not to become complacent.

The Brigade’s Control Room handled more than 9,000 emergency calls in a week, mobilising crews to over 4,000 incidents.

One fire near Commonside East saw around 60 firefighters called out, while another near Beddington Lane involved a similar response.

The LFB says the risk of grass fires remains high, urging people to avoid barbecues and bonfires, and to dispose of cigarettes safely.
