England rugby union prop Joe Marler says he needed to determine whether head coach Steve Borthwick was a “liar” when it came to his chances of making the World Cup squad.

The Harlequins player is currently part of a training group – 18 months after his last international appearance.

Marler says he needed to look Borthwick “in the eye” before committing – as he doesn’t “trust anyone”.

But he’s not been given any guarantees.
