Dame Judi Dench has planted a seed taken from the felled Sycamore Gap tree at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The actress was joined by 7-year-old Charlotte Crowe from Northumberland.

They placed the seedling into the plot dedicated to the co-founder of the National Trust.

Two men will appear at Crown Court later this year charged with causing criminal damage to the tree along Hadrian’s Wall.
