Care homes for older residents should be built near trees and away from busy roads to protect them from dangerous pollution.

That’s according to a new study from the University of Surrey which researched fine particle pollution around three care homes in China.

Professor Prashant Kuma is Director of Surrey’s Global Centre for Clean Air Research hopes care homes can be built in safer locations.

He says a balance is needed between urban living and good air quality to protect the more vulnerable older adults in care settings.
