Britain’s record-breaking summer could mean more potholes after temperatures reached 38.1 degrees at Kew Gardens.

The RAC says intense heat and UV rays can make road surfaces brittle, causing cracks that later develop into potholes.

In June, Sutton reported it had spent £850,000 fixing more than 500 potholes, including 77 classed as critical.
More than eight in ten drivers say they encounter potholes on most journeys.
