An estimated 570 tonnes of electrical items are incorrectly disposed of in Kingston each year.

The council has introduced 15 new drop-off points across the borough to help reduce this figure.

Seven of the locations have dedicated recycling bins for small broken household electrical items, such as kettles and hairdryers.

Batteries and electronic parts can spark or explode when crushed in bin lorries meaning they can’t be mixed with standard recycling.
