Aldi revealed sales rose 8% year-on-year in the four weeks to December 24th – topping £1.5 billion for the first time.
Its fellow German-owned rival says it saw growth of 12% in that period, with four-and-a-half million more shoppers than usual.
Lidl opened its new UK headquarters in Tolworth last year.
