An “urgent notification” was issued for Wandsworth Prison last week after an inspection found severe overcrowding, vermin and violence.

Chief inspector of prisons Charlie Taylor has raised “serious concerns” about the government policy.

He has highlighted examples of high-risk inmates selected for early release.

It included a domestic abuser who posed a risk to children and a man with a serious drug problem and a history of self-harm.
