In July, officers patrolling Marketfield Road in Redhill searched the16 year old after concerns about a rise in robberies in the area.
Officers found a Stanley-style box cutting knife and he was arrested for possession of a bladed article and on suspicion of robbery.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to a three-month youth referral order, costs, and forfeiture and destruction of the knife.
