A plain clothes officers caught 34-year-old Ryan Penney stealing from Primark in Elmsleigh Shopping Centre on Friday.
Officers saw him conceal clothing and leave without paying and he was arrested.
He was also found to be breaching a Community Protection Notice and linked to three other recent thefts.
He has been jailed for 4 weeks.
