The woman, known only as Betsy, from Crawley, had a scan which spotted a small nodule in her lung before she had any symptoms.
After it grew, further tests confirmed it was cancer, and she had surgery at the Tooting hospital last November.
Following her operation, Betsy also raised more than £1,000 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation by walking 87 miles.
