A number of gas boilers that were “past their serviceable lives” have been replaced at a council run hostel in Chessington.

Four Oaks spans three buildings containing 32 bedrooms, communal kitchens and bathrooms, a lounge area and laundry room.

Kingston Council has ripped out the old system and replaced it with heat pumps and solar panels.

The authority says gas used to heat council buildings accounts for over a third of the authority’s greenhouse gas emissions.
