56-year-old Frederick Livermore was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday.
The victim intervened when the perpetrator was smashing vehicle windscreens and windows of homes in Bingham Drive and Monks Way.
He also caused a five-hour standoff with police when he barricaded himself into his home before finally getting arrested.
