Officers on patrol stopped a vehicle after they deemed it to be driving at speed along Lower Addiscombe Road.
After speaking with the driver, he was detained for a search under the drugs act and then officers say he attempted to escape.
He was apprehended, and officers discovered a quantity of Class A and B drugs, as well as a knuckleduster and a knife.
