A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a welfare officer at an asylum hotel near Staines.

22-year-old Abdifatah Yusuf Adani is alleged to have stabbed the staff member five times on Saturday evening at The Stanwell Hotel.

Adani appeared at Staines Magistrates Court earlier and communicated via a Somali translator.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Guildford Crown Court on the 17th of September.
