A man believed to be convicted killer Roy Whiting has been stabbed at Wakefield Prison in Yorkshire.

A Prison Service spokesperson said:

“A prisoner at HMP Wakefield was treated for minor injuries following an incident involving another offender.

It would be inappropriate to comment further while the police investigate.”

Whiting is serving a life sentence for the abduction and murder of 8 year old Sarah Payne from Hersham in 2000.

She went missing while playing near her grandparents’ home near Worthing in West Sussex and her body was found 17 days later.

Whiting was ordered to serve a 50-year minimum term, but that was reduced by 10 years by the High Court in 2010.

He has been attacked numerous times while in prison.
