The blaze on Mount Pleasant Road on Saturday night, required 70 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
No injuries were reported but the property owner and next door family are said to have lost everything.
It’s the second time the same house has gone up in flames in a year.
The fire this time last year was caused by a fault in solar panels.
Station Commander Guy Pedliham for New Malden fire station said: “We attended a fire on Mount Pleasant Road in New Malden in August 2025 at a private dwelling. The cause of the fire was due to a fault in solar panels.
“On Saturday 22 August 2026 we attended a fire at the same address which was due to the catastrophic failure of a lithium battery pack commonly used with e-bikes.
“Following the 2025 fire at this address, the Brigade flagged to the Local Authority that there was a person at risk of fire at this address. While London Fire Brigade has no legislative powers, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, to enforce fire prevention measures, we do work in partnership with the local authority to run educational programmes for local residents and businesses.”
