A charity that supports, promotes, and encourages boating and water safety is urging swimmers to think before they go into a river.

The Surrey and Kingston Maritime Volunteer Service has spoken out after several swimmers died across the UK in river-related issues.

Their advice includes swimming parallel to the bank and not across the river, remembering that boats may not be able to see you.

They also stressed the dangers of diving or jumping off structures into the water, as it’s impossible to know what lies beneath the waterline.
