Andrea Bernard died of her injuries in hospital, after being transferred to a specialist burns unit.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Cold Case Team say Janice Nix is due in court tomorrow, and will also face charges of cruelty towards another child.
It is reported Andrea was assaulted at an address in Ashley Road in Thornton Heath on the 6th of June 1978 and was hospitalised.
She was initially treated at hospital in Croydon before being transferred to a specialist burns unit in East Grinstead where she died a week later.
The offences were reported in September 2022 and an investigation was launched.
