Firefighters are warning people in Croydon to take care after grass fires broke out during the hottest and driest conditions of the year.

Two grass fires in the area damaged around four hectares of land, as crews tackled dozens of similar incidents across London.

The London Fire Brigade says dry vegetation can cause fires to spread quickly, putting homes, wildlife and the environment at risk.

People are being urged to avoid disposable barbecues, safely dispose of cigarettes and take rubbish home from parks.
