Twenty-year-old Shuja Gibraeel Mohsin was investigated by Counter Terrorism Policing after officers found extremist content on his devices.
Police say the case highlights concerns about young people being drawn into dangerous online material and ideologies.
Mohsin will be sentenced in August after being convicted at the Old Bailey.
