The new approach allows the Met to release more footage of arrests and pursuits from officers sooner, especially after major incidents.
The policy was recently used after the knife attack in Golders Green and during a large public order operation.
Police said the footage helped show the full context of officers’ actions.
Previously, body worn video was usually only released after court cases had finished.
The Met said any decision to release video must still be necessary, proportionate and legally approved.
