Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a 14-inch main that had ruptured in Richmond Hill at the junction with Ellerker Gardens.

They installed flood barriers over the course of 4 hours and also used around 50 sandbags to divert surface water away from homes.

Water was filmed gushing down the road at around 10pm on Sunday.

Statement from Thames Water.

“We are working to see if a temporary fix can be made to restore some water supply sooner, while we prepare for a full repair. If this isn’t possible, a specialist part will need to be brought to site, which may take until later this evening to arrive.

In the meantime, we are continuing to deliver and re-deliver bottled water to all affected customers.

We’re really sorry for the ongoing disruption and appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this as quickly and safely as possible. Further updates will follow by 3.30pm.”

Thames Water says the materials needed for the repair are already on site, so work can begin as planned.
