Half Human: Return of the Dvanaest is the sequel to Half Human: The Prison Key which came out last year.

The project is thought to be the first of its kind in the country because the books have been authored by pupils.

Co-authored and edited by members of the Rokeby Writing Team from Years 4-8, the boys and school librarian, Mark Drewery, who has been overseeing the project, say this MG novel “represents a bold new chapter in creative writing: a school community coming together to write and publish a full-length book and its sequels.”

Rokeby School pupil, Virat Iyer, says the editorial process can be difficult.

About the book:

Ryan Barnes has spent a whole year on planet Ontaria. After having to leave Earth he has now settled in with his alien family. He thinks he’s got the hang of life on this planet and learned some new skills.

Ontaria still has some surprises for him however. A new Tredicim plot gradually reveals itself and Ryan, like it or not, finds himself in the middle of it all and he must save his second homeworld once again.

Half Human: Return of the Dvanaest blends adventure, identity, and belonging in a story that will resonate with young readers everywhere.

About the Rokeby Writing Team:

Rokeby’s Writing Team is led by school librarian, Mark Drewery, a published author who has been writing books since he was a teenager.

The initiative brings together pupils of different ages for collaborative creative projects ranging from illustrated picture books to full-length novels.

It encourages imagination across disciplines—writing, art, 3D modelling, and coding— and allows children’s creative expression to flourish.
