Transport for London is working in partnership with the Met Police on the project.
The new cameras will be installed over the next few weeks at sites in areas including Croydon, Sutton and Hammersmith and Fulham.
The current speed cameras at these locations use sensors embedded in the road surface to detect the speed of all passing vehicles.
But the new cameras will combine 4D radar and a 4k colour camera that requires no visible flash or white light.
There are also no in-ground sensors or road markings and they can provide coverage of up to five lanes of bi-directional traffic flow.
