People in Epsom and Ewell have rejected the council’s idea for a new two parish style community council.

The council had put the proposal forward ahead of devolution in April next year.

Surrey’s district and borough councils will be abolished, and Epsom will become part of the new East Surrey Unitary authority.

Results on the proposal showed 82% of respondents to a consultation opposed the idea of having an extra community council put in place.

However, plans could still move ahead if councillors vote in favour of the proposals despite the consultation results.
