Albert Bridge in Chelsea has been shut to vehicles as “a precautionary measure” following an inspection.

The bridge, which is over 150 years old, now joins Hammersmith Bridge, which has been closed to traffic for almost 7 years.

Kensington and Chelsea Councillor, Johnny Thalassites says the aim is to get the bridge open asap.

Albert Bridge, which first opened in 1873, is more than 150 years old and is an English Heritage Grade II* listed structure. It is one of only two bridges in London to never have been replaced – the other being Tower Bridge.

A three tonne weight restriction has been enforced since January 2024 to protect the bridge.
