Hammersmith tutor who fled war in Ukraine named Inspirational Teacher of the Year

An English language tutor at the Macbeth Centre has been recognised for helping learners who have fled war-torn countries.

Iryna Hura, a refugee from Ukraine, has won the Inspirational Teacher of the Year award at the Mayor of London Adult Learning Awards.

The award cited her compassionate support for the Hammersmith learners who arrived in the UK under extremely difficult circumstances.

Iryna said: “I understand how difficult it is to start again in a new country – leaving everything behind, beginning from zero and learning to rebuild life in an unfamiliar language.”
