The £2.2bn project, which will see more than 100,000 extra flights per year, was approved by the Government earlier this week.
Anti-expansion campaigners say the move is reckless and a catastrophe for the environment.
But Croydon Council says the move will be a massive boost for jobs in the borough.
The airport’s retail-supply chain also brought £265million into the Croydon economy last year.
