Preparations are underway for the return of Europe’s biggest river race.

Nearly 300 crews will row 21.6 miles, passing under 28 bridges including Putney, Hammersmith and Barnes.

Only fixed-seat boats with a passenger and cox can compete, with handicaps giving every crew an equal chance.

The Great River Race, launched in 1988 with 61 boats, now attracts competitors from across the UK, USA, Australia, and Europe.

It’s taking place on Saturday the20th of September.
