The Duke of Edinburgh was there as part of celebrations to mark 1,100 years since the coronation of England’s first King.
Athelstan was crowned in All Saint’s Church in the town centre in 925AD.
Prince Edward planted a tree and unveiled a plaque at Athelstan Gardens.
