A landmark report into the water sector in England and Wales suggests mandatory meters and social tariffs for vulnerable customers among 88 recommendations.

The review led by Sir Jon Cunliffe’s been carried out in the face of widespread public anger over pollution, rising bills and bosses’ bonuses.

A single regulator in both nations has also been suggested, giving customers greater protection.

The Liberal Democrats have been demanding Ofwat be scrapped since 2022.
