The news comes following the death of 7-week-old Jimmy Alderman in October 2023.

He passed away at home in Surbiton while being breastfed “hands-free” within a baby carrier worn by his mother.

The Lullaby Trust was sent a copy of the Prevention of Future Deaths report following the inquest into Jimmy’s death.

The Coroner’s report stated “there is a risk that future deaths will occur unless action is taken” on slings and baby carriers.

The Lullaby Trust says it is taking immediate action to consider if the current advice it gives to parents should be altered in light of this.

It will also consult with parents about their use and knowledge of slings.
